Music, The Internet, and Copyrights

This article discusses the “common knowledge” idea that the internet has destroyed the music industry due to peer-to-peer downloading, YouTube, and other methods of getting free music.  The writer analyzes a recent interview with pop culture critic Simon Reynolds and picks apart his generalizations and unproven statements about how the music industry has suffered because of the internet.  The writer makes arguments for why making it harder to succeed in music can be a good thing for the industry and that mash-ups can be art.
