Think Progress’ Alyssa Rosenberg learned that Prometheus got an R rating because of a scene in which Noomi Rapace’s character surgically removes an alien fetus from her womb. So the MPAA took issue with a woman trying to remove a vicious, predatory creature from her that would have killed her if she hadn’t, but was ok with all the other grotesque imagery in the film?

Last night, I went to see Prometheus. Long story short, I didn’t like it. (I’m considering doing a full review.) Here is how to better spend your time:

io9.’s Daily 10 compares themes present in both historical and science fiction. It’s a very cool list, and it makes points about both genres that you might not have thought of before. My favorite point is the first, about world-building. I love reading about the vastness and diversity of well-developed fictional worlds. (Part of why I liked A Feast for Crows more than some is because it spent a lot of time showing us places we’d never seen before, particularly Dorne and Sunspear, home of the Martells.)
