I’m not really a shipper, but how are Don and Joan not together?! They’re made for each other. Even they seem to know it.
Game of Thrones Review To Be Delayed
Due to the 2 hour Mad Men season premiere, the Game of Thrones review won’t go up until sometime tomorrow, most likely in the afternoon.
Here’s a Mad Men poster for the series premiere on April 7. From what we can tell the show is now animated with colored pencils and there are two Don Drapers.
And now I want an animated episode done in the style of 60s ads.
Watching TV Slowly
As a companion piece to my previous post, here is an article by Todd VanDerWerff advocating for not binge watching certain TV shows.
I certainly believe he makes strong points about how shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad lose something and/or take on different meanings when the viewing pace is changed. And I know from experience that frantically catching up can cause you to miss things (I read the A Song of Ice and Fire novels so rapidly, I missed a lot of details fueling the great fan theories out there). And VanDerWerff clearly isn’t advocating ceasing the practice of marathoning altogether. I think I’m slightly more open to the idea than he is (I can’t imagine watching The Wire week-to-week), but, as I said, he makes great, well-thought-out points. Give it a read!
Jason Reitman Directing A Live-Read of American Beauty

Jason Reitman is directing a live-read of Alan Ball and Sam Mendes’ wonderful film American Beauty, debuting tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival. The incredible cast includes:
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as Lester Burnham
Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Firefly) as Caroline Burnham
Mae Whitman (Arrested Development, Scott Pilgrim) as Jane Burnham
Adam Driver (Girls) as Ricky Fitts
Woody Harrelson (Cheers, Zombieland, The Hunger Games) as Col. Frank Fitts
Sarah Gadon (Cosmopolis) as Angela Hayes
and Nick Kroll (The League) as Buddy Kane
I really wish I could go see this. Cranston and Hendricks alone would be worth the price of admission.
Mad Men 5x13
Julie Hammerle, Andy Daglas, and I discuss the season finale of Mad Men, John Glover, My Two Dads, and my history of dressing as the Eleventh Doctor. We might be taking next week off, but we’ll definitely be back for Breaking Bad, for we are the people who knock. And podcast. Mostly podcast.
Mad Men 5x12 and Game of Thrones 2x10
Julie, Andy, and I look at a shocking event on Mad Men and the season finale (and second season in its entirety) of Game of Thrones.
Jaguar's Continued Response to Mad Men
The Jaguar car company has been prominently featured on Mad Men this season, and while they say that no publicity is good publicity, both the car’s reputation and the behavior of the (fictional) executives have not been treated well on the show. Jalopnik has an interesting article showing the company’s reaction over time. They remain pretty good sports throughout.
Good TVeets Con 2012 Day 2
Good TVeets Con 2012 was a resounding success!
Podcast: Mad Men 5x11, Game of Thrones 2x09
Julie Hammerle, Andy Daglas, and myself examine Mad Men’s “The Other Woman” and Game of Thrones’ “Blackwater.”
Mad Men 5x10, Game of Thrones 2x08
This week, Julie Hammerle, Andy Daglas, and myself discuss what is possibly my favorite episode of Mad Men ever then debate the merits of this week’s Game of Thrones.
We apologize for the technical difficulties.
Showrunners vs. Networks and Manager vs. Creative Showrunners
The A.V. Club’s Todd VanDerWerff examines the role of the showrunner in TV in light of the recent news about Sony ousting Dan Harmon as showrunner of Community. He examines how showrunners have to both guide the creative direction of their shows as well as manage its production, and how these two forces can work together or oppose each other. It’s a very interesting examination of why some shows work, some don’t, and some develop cult followings.
