Sherlock/Sandman crossover. Had to do this, quite evil of me I know. Sherlocks’ fall didn’t quite go to plan.
“-I’m not blessed, or merciful. I’m just me. I’ve got a job to do, and I do it. Listen: even as we’re talking, I’m there for old and young, innocent and guilty, those who die together and those who die alone. I’m in cars and boats and planes; in hospitals and forests and abattoirs. For some folks death is a release, and for others death is an abomination, a terrible thing. But in the end, I’m there for all of them.”
Death.

OH DEAR GOD
Has Neil Gaiman seen this yet? I feel he would appreciate it.

I have now. Thanks to everyone who sent it to me…

From io9

In the glory days, when Twinkies were plentiful and fruit pies weren’t on the endangered species list, superheroes her eager spokespeople for Hostess products, hawking the wonders of Chocodiles and Donettes from the pages of comic books. But Neil Gaiman’s gloomy Dream and the rest of his Endless siblings from Sandman never got in on the pie-selling action, at least not until now. Artist Axel Medellin Machain dreams up the Sandman fruit pie ad that never was.
Over at CBR’s The Line It Is Drawn, other artists have lined up unlikely shills for Hostess’ chemically preserved goods: Rorschach, John Constantine, the Saga family unit, even Swamp Thing and Alan Moore. You can almost see the fury in cartoon Alan Moore’s eyes as he’s compelled to push pies.

Every year I am at the FRANKFURT BOOKFAIR this happens. Comic-Collectors come to my signings and ask me to do Gaiman-characters.

I really love to do this. Sandman in Manga style is so appealing.

In a perfect world, society’s view of Death would be that of Neil Gaiman’s Death of the Endless.

Recommendations: MirrorMask

MirrorMask is not a great movie, per se, but I can’t help but love it, despite its (many) flaws.  Written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Dave McKean, who worked with Gaiman as an illustrator on The Sandman, the film is full of big ideas an amazing imagery.  Just check out the trailer:

Unfortunately, the story doesn’t quite hold up.  It’s a pretty standard quest film, and some of the plot points don’t quite work once you start to really think about them.  But that almost doesn’t matter because so much else about the film works.*  The visuals of the film are breathtaking, full of haunting beauty.  Most of the film takes place in an imaginary world created by the protagonist.  It’s expansive but sparsely populated, creating a sense of isolated dread.  When inhabitants do show up, they are the perfect mix of creepy and cute, especially the riddle-loving sphinxes.  And the film is full of Gaiman’s wonderfully off-kilter humor.

This movie is not for everyone.  Or even most people.  But I’d recommend giving it a try, because if you end up liking it, you’ll absolutely love it.

*I’m trying to decide whether this makes me a hypocrite; I despised Avatar because it had a silly, uninspired story and mind-blowing visuals.  Then again, the acting and humor in Avatar are also pretty bad.

It’s by a Russian art student called Max Overkill, and I thought it was absolutely wonderful.
I especially love how grumpy I look, and the fish.

For the next few days, I’ll be posting pictures of two very large chairs I saw in a courtyard in Prague.  They are extremely large, and are works of art rather than actual furniture.  I am including the second picture here not because I like it all that much, but to give a sense of scale.

I was drawn to these chairs because they look, to me, like something out a Neil Gaiman story.  Although none of the Endless represented the sun or the moon, for some reason, I pictured characters from The Sandman using these chairs.  I hope you enjoy them.
